Can't get engine running

I've just finished installing a "new" used motor from one of those japanese importers (JDM exchange). It's cranking well, but won't actually start. I tried spraying some starter fluid in the intake, and it ran slowly for about 2 seconds and stalled. I've checked that I have fuel pressure to the fuel rails, but i don't know if the injectors are actually working. I also made sure that I have spark. This is my third time putting one of these motors in, and I am at a complete loss. PLEASE HELP!!!

ok.. did you check the distributor to make sure it's dead on? have you checked for a bad ground or loose vaccum line? sure all connections are clean and attached? fuel filter blocked?

i know i'll think of more.. but that'll do for now.. you say you have spark? and it turns over strong?

i've checked all of that. there is one difference on this motor, though. there's only 1 vac line coming off the EGR. my old engines had 2, but the first time i changed one of these motors, i didn't have any vac lines hooked up, and it still ran.

was everything at TDC when you installed it? i don't know how much "stuff" the motor came with is why i am asking....

Sorry Slick... although I have found in FF, if you use the back function on this forum it still keeps your text so you can copy & paste. (Not sure if it works in IE)

yeah. TDC was verified when i did the timing belt. I had the oilpan off to make sure.

sssh very interesting. so. fuel pressure. check. spark. check. vaccum lines. check. could the ecu possibly be malfunctioning? what year pathy?

95. still the same ecu from before, and it worked when i blew the last motor.

have you checked to see if the fuel lines may be backwards.. it's a long shot but known to happen....

sssh also.. was the distributor with the motor when you got it or is it your own dist?

I'll try it. I thought of that, but they just looked like they were where they should be, so I left them

dist. was with motor and still has the factory seal on the adjustment bolt, so i left it where it was

while yer checking those.. play with the dist a little bit.. if the timing is out it may not allow it to start.. couldn't hurt

also.. please.. do tell.. how have you fried so many motors? if it is hydrolocking.. did the ecu get wet?

the first time the ecu did get wet, but not the other times. i don't know how i keep blowing motors. the first time, the puddle i went through was a lot deeper than i thought (about 4'), but the last time was only in about a foot of water.

sssh just an afterthought.. i know it would USUALLY backfire.. but are all the spark plug wires attached snug and in the right places? :confused:

it was the damn fuel lines. I had them backwards. I wish I tried that last night, it would have saved me a hell of a lot of aggravation. Thanks.

told ya it was somethin simple. just needed to take a breath and discuss the matter amongst friends. glad i could help. glad she's runnin. mother nature made sure my motor did not come out of the garage today.. which means 1 more day of no runnin pathy
