So was this optional equipment on my Pathfinder or was it standard?

I can verify that on the 2002 Pathy it was NOT standard.

 

For all trims...

VPC Installed Accessory Option Code F94: In-Cabin Microfilter MSRP $59

 

Safe to say that it was optional for 2002 and earlier, but I can't verify the later models. Some part stores stock generic brands too.

I can veryfy that I have a 97 LE 4x4 and I opened up the black box and found no filter. Only what I think is called the condenser (looks like a radiator). I used compressed air and a vacuum to clean it out but thats all I could do.

 

How do you open the box? I'm hearing a rattling sound coming from the box. Thanks
