Truck dies when put in gear

The other day I got in my truck to go snowboarding. I started it, and let her run for maybe a minute or two. When I slipped the shifter into D, the truck drove forward about a foot and then the engine died. She ran fine after warming up for a little bit.

 

Is there something I can do to prevent this? Or is my pathy just that tired?

I wouldn't be worried -- your trucks a lot younger than my ole girl.

 

I'm sure its just that shes getting tired and I didn't give her enough time to wake up in the cold morning. I'm just wondering if theres a fix for that short of a rebuilt drive train.

What RPM does it idle at warm, in D ? Cold in D ? Could be your FICD (fast idle control device) or your fast idle cam may be sticking or need adjustment. Your manual should out line those well... Maybe the mixture heater needs replacement ?
