Must fix before the Fun Begins

Hi I'm new to the pathfinder world and this is my first post.

My Girlfriend has a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder Se 4dr. Automatic with the 3.0 the first import I get to really play with. I'm a mopar man and all of my cars have been old chryslers, dodge, and plymouths.

So before she lets me lift it, install headers and big tires.... I need to fix the little things.

1. She has power locks. When yo turn the key in the drivers door it activates the door locks and unlocks all the doors. This slowly stopped working. The entire power locks system no longer works (passenger or driver side switch or unlocking via the key.

This results in her being unable to unlock her door form the drivers side and she has to go to the passenger side to do so. So the switches are likely ok.

For about 1 month before it died altogether it would (when the key is used to unlock) pop the locks and then quickly lock the doors again. The only way in was to have one turn the key and the other open another door.

Anyone come across this before? Before I take the door panel apart should I focus my attention elsewhere (a relay perhaps?)

2. Her passenger rear window is out the one to the cargo area not on the door. How much are these to replace? Where can I find glass cheaper then the glass shop. Pathfinders are not too comon in scrap piles around here.

hey welcome to the nippon motors.. you'll like it i am sure.. most of us LOVE our trucks.

1. there are some mysterious things that seem to happen with locks on some of these trucks. search the garage or year specific area but here is the scoop:

the most common are the switches and connectors in the doors coming loose (apart.) the other thing that gave me fits for a while was that one of the door handles wouldn't fully retract so i'd get the quick up and then down on the locks too. to fix either problem you'll have to open the doors. very easy.. 2-3 screws and push fasteners all the way around.. everything comes apart pretty easy.. so, check all the connections and lube the lock and handle mechanisms..

realys, maybe.. not sure where they are but i can see that being a possible sulprit. and of course the easiest and simplest possibility is: fuse!

hope that helps and keep us posted..

welcome WAVEY

I checked the fuses.

I figured it was something electrical in the door but I wanted to make sure there weren;t any electricals outside of the door :)

Tear down begins :)

I found this in the Tech section

Power Door Lock Actuator - factory defect

We found one of ours was defective when manufactured. I suppose I could have tried to get a free repair or replacement, but it was less hassle to fix it myself. It involved reseating a piece of circuit board, and repairing the traces on the board that had been worn through.

Power Door Locks locking or unlocking on their own

Sometimes during cold weather, hot weather, or just for no reason at all, the power door locks will either pop back up after locking or stay locked without letting the lock cylinder turn and unlock the door. The mechanical assembly connecting the lock cylinder itself to the inner door lock and armatures are mated by the use of small plastic parts that wear out and then break over time. Disassembling the door panel, then replacing the lock parts is the appropriate fix for this problem.

So good to know/.
