Brake light is on and rough idle

After I pulled the starter out and rebuilt it, the brake light on the dash is on and the engine idle is rough and lopey. I checked the brake fluid level and tested the wiring at the connector already and the light is still on even with the connector unplugged. I did find the wiring to the O2 sensor was burnt and frayed from laying on the header, but I replaced the bad section and the idle still isn't very smooth.

Is there something around the starter that I might have pulled loose or damaged or do you all think these problems aren't related?

I'd guess it has to be related to something you did. It's only the oil sender unit near the starter, unless you tugged something in the harness pulling the starter out the front ? Did you get the wires to the O2 sensor correct ?? :D WTF ? That still has nothing to do with the brake light... Did you run the ECU codes yet ?
