Throttle Body

I decided to pull apart my intake tube to check the MAF sensor for damage or dirt....so I decided to remove the whole tube from the Throttle body and all I saw inside was black! It looked really dark and crusty.....I seriously want to pull it and clean it

 

I know 88 had his polished, besides replacing the gasket how hard can it be????

why dont you just spray it with carb cleaner while its still on, i would turn the car on and start the engine and turn the throttle a little bit (it will rev up), this you can do by hand, and spray some in there but to much, you will hear it bog down thats when you know to stop and let it catch up, then stop it (the engine) and let the butterfly close and spray it, then start it back up and run it, this can be done in any order and dont put to much in there without runnin the engine

Yes, thats the easy way, but it washes everything through the valves, cylinders and cat. Not the best if it's roadgrit and fine particulate. Also, he wants to port it which never hurts if done well. I have not done it myself on a Pathy so I cant help there, but I know there are some threads on it here...

I do want to polish it later....but for now a simple cleaning would suffice...i'll shoot some phots in the light this weekend...I do like the carb cleaner idea...I used to use a few drop of ice cold water into the carb of my Chevelle when I was running regular leaded fuel to blow out all the crap..downfall....some sort of caustic leftovers in the muffler.....mufflers only lasted 6-8 months....I stopped doing the water trick and the mufflers lasted.....HHHHMMMMM??!!!

 

My muffler is shot and my exhaust maifold needs a new gasket anyway.....I'll give it a go....

I believe the cold water trick is more for removing carbon deposits in the cylinders and on the top of pistons not to mention I think it is only for carburated vehicles; I'm not sure what water does to injectors.... The carb cleaner will definitely work, helping flush down the air intake, but will put all of it through the motor. I doubt it is doing any harm where it is and would leave it alone myself. Wait till you polish it to clean it is my suggestion. Rather just buy some good injector cleaner like Redline. Anyway, good luck...
