Coolant smell

Only happens after the engine is warm. There are no leaks, and the coolant level seems to stay constant. According to my temperature gauge, it doesn't get too hot, even after hours of HWY driving in the mountains. I have a couple things that may or may not be related to help diagnose.

 

1.My low pressue (suction) hose to the compressor was recently torn due to a bind from the body lift. For a short term fix I wrapped it in tape. It definately lost some pressure but the tape has sealed the leak for now.

 

2. I have been hearing a high pitched squeal coming from the passenger side, only from 0-20 MPH, coasting, accelerating, and braking. It sounds kind of like a wheel bearing but there is no sign of the wheel on that side being loose. Again, the issue starts once the truck has been running for a while. Since the sound started about the same time as the smell, I thought it might be related.

 

It has been pretty hot here lately but the smell gets pretty bad sometimes. Kind of makes me want to :oops: when it gets bad. This is probably something totaly obvious that I'm not mechanically inclined enough to pinpoint .

For the coolant, My guess would be the heater core or the hoses that go to it. The squeal I'm not too sure about. Brake pads ? Caliper slide pins (Look in the garage tech section) ? Maybe just a rock or something wedged in ? Pull the tire and check it out...
