97 r50 no start security system

Recommended Posts

So I bought a 97 r50 back in January. When ever I used the key to unlock the driver door it would set off the alarm system. So I bought a key fob and paired it with the clicker. Problem A solved. (Some reason key fob won't lock the doors though. Possibly related)

Problem B is when I turn the key it will click once and all power will cut out. Try again and the car starts right up. Sometimes it takes a few tries sometimes it starts immediately. Starter and battery are supposedly good according to autozone. I've switched pretty much every relay with a certified working one under the hood thinking that might be it.

Also maybe relevant is that my driver rear door won't open. The handle is broken. Anyone know how to open a door with both inside and outside handles not working?

Any suggestions? I'm thinking testing door sensors, changing ignition switch, pulling security system. In that order.

For the door, this thread or this one might help you get it open. Looks like it might just need a little lube in the right spot. Get that sorted out, make sure the locks work, then see if the alarm's still upset. Might just be confused if it thinks the door's half closed or something, though I wouldn't expect that to explain the no-start.

Unfortunately I don't think the security system on the R50s is removable. Built into the smart entry whatsit IIRC.

I got the door open by shooting wd40 in through the outside handle and beating on where the door latch is with my fist haha. Didn't solve the no start problem though. Thanks for that link.

I tried grounding the hood sensor to keep the alarm from activating. So I stripped the wires and joined them together. The security light is still blinking inside like it's activated.

Another suggestion I saw was jumping the theft warning relay. So that the alarm can't kill switch the car. I'll try that next.
