POONFINDER
Fuel pump doesnt turn off when the car is off. Also when i turn the key to off my car doesnt shut off. This is a new issue. Drove from laramie wyoming to bozeman montana- entire way my fuel pump would be on. the only way to turn my car off is to hold the break and release clutch. What i really want to know, is there a failsafe bypass to the Fuel Pump Relay where my car will short itself out to allow me to not be stranded if my relay quit out? Gonna run some diagnostics tomorrow, currently 4AM so i cant run to the store. Worst case am I still able to drive my car or should i fix it while I can? I have another 8+ hour drive to central washington aswell tomorrow. Gonna try to fix. If its not a bypass, im going to check for a short to ground. If it isnt that then is it a fauly fuel pump? Its one electrical fooksie after another with this POS. I loved my pathfinder just a minute ago.
level9
If the whole car isn't shutting off and all you can do is kill the engine yet you still have power I would guess the ignition relay (in the fuse box) or ignition switch is bad. There is no 'fuel pump relay bypass' that I'm aware of - but the fuel pump needs power via the ignition relay first. In the meantime you should be able to just pull the ignition relay when you want the car off. You can try replacing the ignition relay yourself if you can find one (dealer maybe). You won't be able to replace the ignition switch yourself easily while on the road since the bolts are sheared off (anti-theft). Personally if I were on a road trip having this issue, I would just find a mechanic and have it fixed.
Slartibartfast
Does anything else turn off with the key? Radio, blinkers? I'm wondering if the ignition switch is buggered. You could remove the clamshell and unplug the switch, see if that shuts it off. If it does, then you know the switch is roached. Ignition relay's a good check too.
