Replacing Lower BJ

Hi All,

 

Failed my inspection for my 94 Terrano the other day due to too much plat in the Lower BJ's and handbrake was uneven.

 

Tried removing the old Lower BJ's over the weekend. But after much hammering failed miserably. I am sure many of you have done this already so would appreciate advice on getting them out. I put the truck on stands and took the load of the lower control arm on a jack and then belted the side of joint in hope it would pop out but it failed. I then tried a forked wedge to try and dislodge it but this too failed. Am I doing something wrong? Any comments appreciated.

 

In regards to the handbrake, anyone know how to adjust it?

Use a balljoint separator or puller from an auto parts store. It'll come off with the right puller.

 

The handbrake is adjusted underneath the vehicle in the center...there's one cable coming out of the floor going to a hanger with two rear axle cables on it, the adjuster is at the end of the single cable.

i think you'll have to undo the large nuts on both lower and upper bjs.. then the disc assembly should come off. as i recall on my 94 pathy the lower as well as the upper bjs are attached via 4 bolts into the arms... i think i also undid the center hub last time...

Ive just done this on my 92. I removed the hubs including the clip also dropped the steering arm joint removed the 4 nuts& bolts holding the lower ball joint. Gave it all a wiggle to separate the drive shaft. the ball joints can be sticky what I did was take the castle nut off put it back on upside down until it was flush with the top of threads and gave it a couple of wacks with a club hammer to pop it out

 

Used a jack to get it to line up correct for the reinstall.

 

Couple of hrs for the first side I did 30 mins for the second side
