What does this protect-wheel well bubble?

There is a piece of plastic behind the passenger rear wheel well. It is the size of a basketball cut in half and it is black. What is behind there?

The gas tank filler tube. It's made of rubber like the radiator hoses, so it needs to be protected from road debris and such.

Exactly how important is it? Mine fell off about a week ago and I just threw it in the back.

It's not important at all...until your tire kicks something up that slices the hose.

Prolly not very likely, but I'd put it back on when I got the chance.

Yup, that's the protector plate thing. By the way, people say it won't fit after a body lift. Same as if the mounting holes may have broke on yours to kill it. Just line it up close enough, then stretch to the side, drill a quick new hole, and you're done. I can post a pic if people want, but no biggie.

When i put my 3in. body lift on, the protector would not fit any more. I just threw it out.
