porridgebird Posted March 15, 2016 Share Posted March 15, 2016 My spare tire rack has rattled since I bought the truck in November 2015. I have a 94 wd21 manual tranny sev6. I haven't been able to isolate the cause. The unit feels very firm but if u pound on it with the palm of your hand u can duplicate the rattle. 5523Pathfinder Posted March 15, 2016 Share Posted March 15, 2016 The bushings at the hinge are most like shot. If you open the carrier all the way and look at the inside of the hinge pivot, you should see a hole. You can try and pump grease into it and see if it helps, but a rebuild is most likely needed. If it is, the rack has an adjustment to increase the tension on the rack at that location, but 5523Pathfinder is correct.... it needs a rebuild.
