Remus92
So... Is my auto trans toast? 96 pathfinder. I took it to a shop to get an issue fixed. Didn't have the tools up here to do it myself. In the process they removed the radiator. Also undoing the trans cooler lines. Long story short it was misdiagnosed and my starter died right before they did service and they still did it anyway. So they put it back together and I sat pissed off in their parking lot while waiting on a tow truck. Got parts ordered, installed myself, and back on the road. Drive it Friday to the store, Saturday to work, and Sunday to work. Which is 10 to 15 miles each way. Monday it would not go into reverse. Since then, I finally got it full with 3.5 quarts of atf. Still no reverse. Got it pushed out of the drive and took it on a short 1 to 2 mile drive since drive still engaged. All forward gears work and shift nicely. Still no reverse. Any advice? Are there air bubbles that may be trapped? Is it dead? I've called the shop once. I got the whole are you checking it correctly? Are you using the right type of atf? We only drained half a quart! Definitely going to call back and try to get the owner on the line. Any advice guys? I may be out of the pathfinder game again.... And right as I got all the issues fixed after I bought this damn thing.
Remus92
I should add. The transmission acted just fine during that period. No odd shifts or delays. Also fluid doesn't really smell or look different from when I did a drain and fill 2 months ago. I think it smells funky to begin with. But really can't tell much difference between what's in the vehicle and the now empty jug.
bushnut
did reverse work before anything was done? could just be a bad solinoid. any bad noise? have you checked all the connections? Edited October 6, 2015 by bushnut
Remus92
Yes it did. Actually shifted in smoother than forward. Still worked after that work too until Monday. No bad noises. Rpms do not change at all going from park to reverse to neutral. I suppose checking connections would be a good idea. Where is the solenoid located top of trans somewhere? Are solenoids known to randomly fail? Edited October 6, 2015 by Remus92
Remus92
http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/11439-17-flashes-of-od-off-light/ Tried this. Nothing came up. Also have no codes. If a solenoid is bad, would I have a coffee come up on the scan tool?
