87 Nissan Pathfinder -- Rough Idle and dies when hot

Good afternoon,

I have a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder with 275k miles. It has been a great truck for all the years I have had it, when I got it from my uncle who bought it brand new.

I let it sent out in the field for about a year and a half when I was moving and didn't use it. However, I have had some issues since I brought it home, it got to where when it was warm, it didn't want to go over 2k RPMs, you had to granny clutch it to keep it from dying. Took it to a mechanic who said he did all kinds of work on it, and it was there for 10 months. But he never really did anything, except maybe changing a fuel filter, air filter, etc... And he completely removed all of what he called “emissions” stuff, it was all the stuff, that if I remember correctly was on the driver’s side fender right above the headlamp. Each time he told me it was fixed I would pick it up, and typically go eat dinner ~45-hour and leave the restaurant and go home. Upon leaving the restaurant is when it would start running extremely rough and dying. Plus my gas light is now on.

What he has told me he had done (not that it matters, because I don’t think any of it was done): Injectors (twice), MAS, master cylinder, fuel pump, fuel tank, air filter, fuel filters (twice), new battery (I bought and see it) among a few other things.

I ordered new injectors and have the old ones so I know he put them in. He thought he had fixed it, and so the other day we went and drove it around and ran great – figured the injectors what was the issue. But, I wanted have a situation much like in times past, so I drove it around for 20-30 more minutes, went home and parked it. Waited 45-hour and it started doing the same exact thing as it had.

I used to install car audio, so I know a little bit about electricity, and for some reason I am curious if some of it is electrical related. However, with it being hot I am curious if there is something deeper to it. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

On topic is enough and since the other one has already received a reply, I will close this one. Please go here http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/40304-87-nissan-pathfinder-rough-idle-and-dies-when-hot/ for further discussion on this subject.

Note: Creating just one thread on a given request actually makes getting that help easier for you and allows others to provide the help easier since all discussion is kept in one place for everyone to see and build off of, while also helping to keep NPORA easier to navigate and search for info within.
