Xterra HVAC controller in R50..

Recommended Posts

Scored a 00 xterra hvac climate control and noticed it was same size as r50 pathy's but the xterra's just looked better to me.. So don't know if anyone has thought about this or has already done this, but if not I WILL be doing it and will try to do a decent write up on it... I know that the plugs are different so there is going to be some rewiring involved but not to intensive as the operating system is roughly the same. I will be looking over the schematics for both vehicles and checking everything out tomorrow. So....Stay tuned if you want :)

What year do you have? I'm on mobile so I can't see your tag.

If you have a digital dash, and the x one is electronically controlled then it could probably work. But if you have an early Gen with manual controls (as in cables for the vent control) the X will need to be the same.

But I have a buddy with an X and I remember them being crazy big for the hvac, but post up if you figure it out.

Interesting, though to be honest if it were me, I'd only swap to the "auto climate control" with the digital display. I'm curious to see how this turns out, I remember they had chunkier switches that were kinda cool.

Agreed, but on the older model R50's i think that swap involves swapping the entire HVAC system.

Love to try it one day.

I'd imagine so, but to be completely honest, I'm not interested in the least  As long as it all functions, I'm happy with the simplicity in its looks.

Well my r50 is a 96 that came with the auto a/c set up. I have finally swapped the controller out for the 2001 xterra version. I was gonna do a bunch of pics and a step by step installed but time, frustration, and life in general kept me from doing that. However it is in and I'll post at least the finish pic soon.....

Also I used the relevant FSMs to complete the swap. Since mine was the automatic AC unit on the Xterras controller the fan selector number one it is still for the auto ,however I plan on switching that and rewiring it to make Number Four the last one to be the auto

Also going from the manual pathy ac controller to the xterra would b easier more than likely b/c there is necessary modding that has to b done to get the xterra one to work...ie i had to combin the back half of the apathy controller to the xterras as well as make spacers to get the xterras to sit right to allow the radio bezel to ft right..

If ANYONE wants the wiring diagram for this swap then will post that to

Wow that looks good, well done!

:yeahthat:

If i didn't know any better i'd say it was stock, no panel gaps or crooked mounting. (aside from that MASSIVE hole where your radio should be,)

Nice work :aok:
