When accelerating it bucks, stock exhaust size

Well the Pathfinder is bein kinda silly again. When I give it to much throttle from a dead stop it starts bucking and then when it gets above 4000 rpms it stops. It does not do it from a kick-down only from a dead stop. I recently changed the plugs, fuel filter, plug wires, cap, and rotor, and it did not cure the problem. I figure it has something to do with the fuel system. It seemed to start happening when i ran a tank of 93 octane fuel through it. What octane gas should I be using I think the manual says 91+? Then what is the stock exhaust diameter, mine rusted off so I wanna get a new muffler and have the pipe ran. Possibly someone could recommend a cheap/good cat-back system. Thanks for your help

You say it does alright above 4000 rpms? That would seem to rule out fuel delivery problems since the engine will use more fuel at higher rpms assuming throttle position is the same. Your first step should be to check the error codes from the computer then go from there. Also it would help to know what year your Pathfinder is.

He's runnin' a '90...

I've always used 87 octane in my Pathy with no obvious negative effects. As a matter of fact, most of it's life was in N.E. Nevada ~ they have 85 octane up there for "regular" grade. Due to the elevation (5000+ ft.), there's less "air", therefore you can get away with a lower octane rating than at sea level. -thnkboutit-

I simply had a local shop install an appropriate muffler & piping when mine went south. From what I've been reading here lately, I think Borla is the only one that has a complete "cat-back" bolt on system.
