89 renewal

so heres the deal....i have an 89 2 door 4x4 and i plan on completly tearing it down and rebuilding it this winter as a bad a** trailblaizing truck..... suspension and wheels i have squared away i need to know so good ideas for motor+tranny and also good interior that doeesnt mind a bit of water but is also good to sit in for a few hours.as far as the motor im thinking a 4.3 v6 still searching on tranny any comments ?

th700r4 if its gonna see an street use or th350 if its only a trail rig. Or a random 4 speed stick like a t18 or sm420.
