Does your rad fan spin freely or is there some resistance when you spin

it by hand. My fan has some resistence when i spin it by hand. It wasn't a

normal resistance either (easy, hard ,easy, hard type of resistance). I am

trying to diagnose a loud howling sound when I rev up the motor. Any help

would be greatly appreciated.

Stand at the front with the bonnet up and rev the throttle butterfly by hand to see if you can tell where the noise is commin from. The fan should have little to no resistance, as the clutch built into it closes as it heats up. Is the motor warmed up when you are trying this or cold? if so, then it should have some resistance, but you should still be able to move it by hand. If it is in fact shot,, you might want to look into and electric Quest fan up-grade, 88 has a good line on pullin these, and could probly hook ya up with one. Hope this helps.

Ya. I tried reving it up when it was hot and cold it howls

either way. Its seems like it coming from the fan. I was

thinking does the fan run off the water pump maybe the

pump bearings are going but it doesn't sound like bearings, sounds

like blower.

I was wondering if anybody ever experience this problem

I am going to put a stethscope to the waterpump

if I can in there.

What do you mean by "sounds like blower"? Before I read that, it sounded like it would be a bad bearing in one of the accesories. Try taking off the belts and spinning each by hand to get a feel or to listen for which one is bad. You could also hook up one belt at a time to narrow down which one might be making the noise. Just don't run it too long without the fan or altenator hooked up.

must have been a slipping belt. I've heard a alot different types noises for

for belts slippage but it was the first one that sounding like this.

I soaked all the belts with belt dressing and even sprayed it while it was

running , the noise is pretty much gone. I changed all the belts last year

to. I guess that kind of thew me off of thinking it was a slipping belt.

The parts guy a Nissan dealer told me to buy factory belts. He said aftermarket

belts were lousy. Of course i didn't listen and bought the aftermarket (Gates)

You never know when the dealer is telling th truth

Zirgo 16" electric fan 2100 cfm. One of the brushes came loose in the motor so I am in the process of fixing it. I run it directly off the battery with a thermostat, so it stays off while whe motor is off and cool. A small bit of power back from the motor as well, but just a small bit. Your best bet is to go with the Quest one, as it only takes a bit of plastic trimming to fit, and they are relatively cheep.
