Bearing?

Yup- looks to me like the strut bearing. See:

Courtesy Nissan part

Edit #2: Adding

If it is a strut bearing, and you are replacing them, you REALLY should want to use the own Nissan ones. Ive read that other brands may have a tendancy to fail very early on.

Edit #3: Adding... -oops- my bad not the bearing, see bellow. Sorry! :hide:

That's not a strut bearing.. The strut bearing has a plastic surface for the strut to <glide< on.. It looks more like some kind of seat for the rubber boot that goes over the shaft of the strut... but I never saw this part before...

:scratchhead: I don't recall replacing (or even seeing) that part when swapping out my struts?

You're going to have to tear it all apart once I figure out it's absolutely necessary. ;-)

Fixed images for you (they're identical, only posted one):

  • 2 weeks later...

I was COMPLETELY wrong about that metal piece! That piece is spot welded to 54036 and available as a welded assembly as 54040. I have absolutely NO idea why they would offer this piece separately! The bumper top snaps into this and holds it in place.
