Mile Marker hubs won't fit

Hi all, I bought the 435 Mile Marker hubs for my 96 Pathy, but they only slide on about 1/2 an inch before they get really tight on the splines & start pushing the drive shaft back into the front diff. I checked the splines on the hub & the shaft & they both look fine, no burrs or anything. The body of the hub will reach the correct position for the bolts to be tightened but the inside smaller piece with the splines won't go far enough onto the shaft to be able to fit the snap ring. I don't want to pound it on in case I can't get it off again, even with a puller. I called MM & they said it should just slide on. Anyone else had this tightness problem?

Make sure that they are in 4x2 mode .. not 4x4. They should slide on pretty effortlessly. If they are in 4x4, they will be too tight!

I'll double check that, maybe it's the problem.

Here's some pics....

first is the OEM hub with the snap ring groove exposed photo2.jpg

next is the shaft sans hub photo3.jpg

then the new MM hub with the shaft at the point where it gets tight photo4.jpg

this is the MM hub from above at the tight point. I can move the black flange body all the way back to the bolts but this pushes the shaft back into the diff a little photo5.jpg

Sorry, I edited my post instead of deleting it. I was thinking at the time that the dial was still mounted to the hub body.

I just tried to reference my hub install with pics I took while doing mine. The pics are too dark to tell (which is probably why I never posted them).

This just happened to me when I replaced a cv axle. I just tapped it on the rest of the way with a dead blow. I suppose it will be more work to take off again but it doesn't seem that bad.

Thanks for all the help & advice guys. It was jacked at first, but then I did try it jacked plus with the wheel removed, didn't seem to make a difference. I'm just going to tap them on like MR T did & they should be fine. I'm just curious as to why they're so tight, even the Mile marker support tech said they should just slide on. One thing I forgot, I had new axles a few months ago, maybe that has something to do with it, although the OEM ones slide on & off just fine.
