Steep Incline Engine Problems

I picked up my newly acquired 94 Pathfinder this weekend and immediately had it offroad in a "controlled" environment. I was in some steep but very easy offroad trails in Northern GA. The problem presented itself on steep sections of the trail. It felt like the engine was not getting gas because it (the engine) would tach way down then surge back to the "normal" running level. This would happen about once a second so it felt like the truck was lurching. At least once, it cut off altogether. As soon as I got on a little less incline, the problem went away. At first I thought it may be the fuel filter, but then realized that it wasn't just when the engine was under load but a combination of being under load and on an incline. Does anyone in the forum have experience with this? Other than that, the thing runs great, pulled a small trailer from GA to MI yesterday (750 miles) at 75 mph with no problems at all.

I'm inclined to say fuel filter and perhaps it needs an ignition tune-up.

I had a bogging, dying issue before with both a Plymouth Fury and a Nissan 720 PU. Both only did it on steep inclines, and it was the fuel filter. Thats the first thing I'd check. Good news is it's cheap and easy. Good luck.
