Rancho Shock Protective Boot

I just installed #5118 Ranchos on the rear of my 91. Bought them on e-bay so I didn't get any instructions. My question is concerning the red dust boot, can I run the shocks without the boot? On the drivers side the boot was real close to the tailpipe and I was sure it would melt so I just took it off and the shock fit fine with plenty of clearance. Is this O.K. ? Will the Rod rust or get damaged and cause problems?

It'll be fine. Those boots only keep mud and water inside after a while anyway.

Yes, you can run it without the boot and some people prefer it that way; keeps dirt and mud and water from collecting inside the boot and rusting the shaft.

yeah ditch the boots... and I don't think that the 5000's even came with instructions. I bought mine at a local Kragen, and there were no instructions with mine either.

What're they gonna do, write "Unbolt old shocks, remove, install new shocks, reinstall bolts" ? It's not rocket science, heh.
