alternator problems

Gidday guys,

my pathy has been developing some alternator problems of late. Usually aftyer going thru mud. I know that the mud can foul the bushings, but I have only just had it reconditioned and serviced. I have also put in a new battery. My question is do I replace the alternator or continue cleaning the bushings every time the charge light comes on on the dash. Has anyone made up a cover for theirs that will stop the mud from getting in.

Sounds like it's time for a new alternator to me. As far as keeping the mud or water out with a cover.... I'd say a resounding no. Those vents are there to allow heat to escape, you would shorten the life of your charging system far worse than the mud/water will.

Wasn't thinking of a cover that close, just underneath and to the side nearest the wheel. Would probably have it as far away from the alternator as possible so that it can still cool. I have heard of it being done with no ill effects.
