Emissions System

Anybody every contemplate removing all the emissions crap and blockng off/plugging the left overs? I ask because I don't have emissions testing nor a visual inspection, so I don't really need it (screw the ozone! J/K). Also, the other day I had to replace the little 3 inch coolant line going to the throttle body, and had to remove the upper manifold to get to it (I didn't get it all the way off though becuase the lines attached to the back! Anybody ever get it off?) and the emissions crap is just plain in the way (especially the EGR valve!!). It would clear up some well needed room. Just don't know if anyone has done it before. I was reading about people with the VG30E in the 300ZX world have done it with no ill-effect (although they don't have CEL on most models).

Thoughts?

You could physically remove all the emissions stuff, but then you'll have a constant CEL lit. If you don't do anything to trick the ECU into thinking that the system is sealed with a vacuum, then it will think you're driving around with the gas cap off and light the CEL. I guess you could locate the sensor that tells it that and replace it with some sort of device that sends the proper voltage.
