Gooday all, Am a bit of a mechanical klutz and have been trying to figure out how to take the spare wheel bracket off the rear of my 1992 Pathy so I can lubricate the hinges. It is getting a little stiff. Can it be done by an beginner or is it a job for the pro's? Any suggestions gratefully recieved

Greetings. i had the same problem. i decided that removing the whole set up is a big project. Mr. Jim gave me a great tip that works wonders. i do it twice a year.

First, spray some good penetrating oil in there and work it in by swinging that gate back and forth. do this 2 days in a row. the third day, hit it w/ penetrating oil and then follow it up w/ some light oil- like the all purpose metal oil. it will swing like new.

Yep, same answer. When I got my Pathy, opening the tire carrier would almost tip the truck over :o I just went at it with some oils for a few days and thats all it needed.

I thought that re the penetrating type oil, but wouldn't dust and stuff stick to the oil and eventually make them worse? I was thinking some dry type lubricant, but need to take hinges to pieces. Maybe put in the too hard basket and just use oil.
