Removing my 98 engine

ok i need to know if i need to remove or drop my front diff to remove the engine? also i have a 97 manual engine to go in my 98 auto and it is missing a wire connector on the pass side valve cover area from the main harness from the firewall my replacement engine has one less 4 wire connector am i ok without it?
