krmiller07
Does anyone know if there is a 'return spring' that put's tension on the rear parking brake cables, to help them return from the engaged or 'Parked' position. One or both of my rear calipers or brakes seems to stick, after I've realesed the parking brake. I can feel it drag for a few blocks before it releases. I crawled under the truck, but didn't see anything obvious aside from the possibility that the rear cables to each caliper may be rusty or dry inside and not releasing the brake shoes in the rotors. Thanks, krmiller07
nunya
Pop the rotors off and make sure all your hardware is in correctly, you don't have a shoe jammed, and make sure your cables are all moving freely...
jj big shoe
Yes, there is a return spring/cable setup inside the brake drum. Grab a can of brake cleaner and clean everything up inside, that might do it.
Kingman
X2. I had the same problem on my old Pathfinder, cleaning everything real good and making sure it was in good shape fixed the sticking problem.
Jody
Does anyone know why my parking brake will keep the truck from going forward but not backwards?
Kingman
By design a drum brake system will grip harder and stop better going forward, not in reverse. Our e-brakes are drum designed whether it's inside a drum rear brake or a miniature drum mated to a disk brake. (Some pathfinders have rear drum brakes while others have disks.)
