So, i bought my 99 pathfinder for $250 had a blown engine, replaced it, put a new timing belt in, went to time it and to get 15 degrees i have to advance the disty all the way so i took it back apart and gonna try again. When i got the engine it was in the middle of a timing belt job, with the distrabutor taken out, so i alinged the dimple on the sproket with the one on the rear cover on the driverside camshaft and stuck the disty in. it looked like it was at #1. so any ways im back in the same spot trying to get it to line up with the #1 terminal but either its a tooth to far advanced or to retarded. it wont line up just right in the sweet spot no matter what i do, unless i move the camshaft so that the two dots are not alinging any tips or tricks?

turn the crank so #1 is tdc on the compression stroke.

the dizy gear has a dimple in it between the 2 holes for the roll pin.

align this dimple with the mark on the bottom of the dizy shaf housing.

insert dizy into head, the rotor will turn as the cross cut gears align and should point you to #1 point.

There is a correct method for timing our Australian model R50s. Maybe the same for yours.

 

I think you need to remove one of the electrical plugs on the throttle body when you adjust it as the computer will compensate for any changes.

 

Check your correct workshop manual for the correct procedure.
