Changed Spark Plugs - Service Engine Soon Light Came On

Changed Spark Plugs - Service Engine Soon Light Came On.

Installed "NGK Irridium IX LFR5AIX-11" (stock #b4469)

these plugs are listed for this vehicle....although the manual says "NGK Platinum" and thats also what came out...

I am suspect the very long "Plug Boots" may not have properly made contact with the tip of the plug. They are very long and you just do not get a feeling of contact when you re-install.

Can anyone confirm these plugs are ok?

has anyone else had this problem? any real way to check to see if the boots have made contact properly ? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I do not have a OBD II reader.......

those plugs are the correct model - iridium vs. platinum will not result in an engine code. check the plug gap (although even that's a stretch for causing an SEL unless it's way out of wack) and try some dielectric grease on the plug boot metal insert and spark plug tip to ensure a good connection. stores like Autozone will do an OBD II scan for free and you can pick up a plug gap tool and dielectric grease for a few bucks while you're there

Great, so now at least I know I have the right plugs!

autozone will scan for free hey.....at least if one of the boots have not made contact properly I could see which cylender is misfiring.

This has just got to be the problem

Thanks for your help

I have these plugs in my 02. They have been in for 17K, no problems. If you gap these you must use needle nose pliers to grab the ground strap and pull back. They are pre-gapped, one may be out of spec but I doubt it. If you hve a mis fire start with making sure that all the coil harnesses are plugged up tight. I had a mssfire after a couple k miles, and it turned out that a coil came un screwed from the plastic valve cover!

Not finding much on the LFR5AIX-11 (4469) vs the PLFR5A-11 (6240)

I'm having a hard time chewing the $110 for OEM Plaitnums vs $65 for the Iridium IX 4469.

Perhaps this is because the iridium IX wasn't around when the VQ came out?

Either way, is there any negative (or positive) to putting the Iridium IX in?

Update:

Well, just happened I was in the store on another mission, and they were on sale $8/pc. That might seem high, but this is Canada, and everything is high! Reg around here is just shy of $10 at my regular parts store w/ my work pricing.

Anyway, I will update when these things go in.
