Problems with air flow meter

Air flow meter keeps breaking down, I've been buying used parts from "gator" for my Nissan. It works for a while but after few months it breaks again. I think this is my fourth time. I did not want spend $500 for a new one if something is triggering it. The car dies when i make a full stop and also bad smell coming from the exhaust.

If you have a bad smell from the exhaust, along with poor running or dying, maybe check to see if your cat is clogged. Had that happen on an old Mitsu truck and it would run poorly while moving, but die when you stop.

check for any O2 sensor codes as well ...

where is the AFM at?

is it the brass thing below the throttle it looks like a horn kinda?
