License plate light

Does the license plate light from the 2000 and newer Pathfinder, fit the 1996 Pathfinder?

I moved my spare tire under the rear of the Pathfinder,instead of the swinging tire mount that it came with. Now I need to move the license plate to the middle of the rear hatch so it looks right.

I don't mind the 96-99 license plate lights that go on both sides of the plate, but I'd prefer the 2000 and up license plate light that goes over the plate if it'll fit.

I think the hatch sheetmetal is shaped differently on the 99.5-04 body styles. so the plastic trim piece the houses the light doesn't fit on the 96-99 hatches.
