VE30DE in a WD21 pathfinder

So I was pondering yesterday, how sweet it would be to swap my autotragic out for a 5 speed. Then I thought what about when I burn down my VG if it was possible to fit a ve30de. No promises here but the VE should mate to a WD21 transmission, and the motor mounts should also be similar or able to be easily customized to fit this application, intake would be a bit of a problem but not impossible as it is a good layout for a straight forward TB style. A stock VE30DE is DOHC (smaller than VG30DE) iron block, forged crank and rods and puts down 190hp/190lbs, and responds great to exhaust and intake mods. Oh yeah it has Variable timing (one of nissans first vtc engines), not to mention these engines are highly reliable. Would make a sweet pathy motor with the right torque inspired intake design.

..... . :scratchhead: . . .........Just a thought

you could try it, but the VE isn't very common.

you'd have to be sure it is narrower than the VG30de beacuse that won't fit, its too wide.

You might have better luck swaping the short block of a vg33. in stock form its 180/210. but put some re-conditioned 3.0 camshafts in the 3.3 heads and may be more like 200/220 or more.

I can pick one up from a local yard for under 300$, I own a 92SE 5speed maxima with the VE, http://www.machzracing.com/pictures/VG-VEsize.gif. Forged crank and rods are nice +plus the VE has timing CHAIN insted of a belt. I know in the Maxima just a performance Y-pipe will net you 15-20hp, so exhaust would be important. I know a fair amount about the VE I think this may be easier than it seems, but then again I could be wrong.

the motor mounts should also be similar or able to be easily customized to fit this application,

blocks have all of the same machine work done to them you can swap out all of your accessories and engine mounts etc...not familiar with the engine so if its out of a car you'd have to swap the oil pan and relocate the dip stick too

Wow it is narrow. do you have a compairson of the ve to the sohc ? If they are the same width then routing exhaust shouldn't be too bad. It would also be cool if they had the same exhaust manifold configuration. then you could run thorley long tubes (made for the 86-89 path v6)

Have you thought about dropping in a Q45t motor? It's basically a 4.1L DOHC V8 that's Turbocharged. The Q45t and its motor are kinda hard to find.
