Dreaded manifold stud symptoms

Hi everyone. I believe my rig has broken studs on the LH head (from the drivers position), causing ticking when warming up or being shut off then started again. As I understand the studs will need to be extracted. My question - realistically - is it best the remove the engine to perform this task? I will be getting expert help with the task, but I've heard from both sides that it can be done either way. Thanks.

well normally it happends on the passenger side. ik i was able to get mine out with out having to take the motor out. if the bolts didnt snap off all the way in the motor and there is a tiny bit sticking out weld a bolt to the end thats sticking out and you should be able to just twist it out. thats what me and a freind did and it worked great!

i wouldnt remove the engine...if you can't get accesss to the studs through the fenderwell stock install a 3" BL then that should give you plenty of working room...I have a video of removing a stud with the engine out of the truck tho somewhere in the garage section
