I have a 95 Pathfinder. I had the first re-man trans put in 2 years ago. 1 year and 3 months later the trans was having problems engaging in 1st gear when taking off; seemed it wanted to take off in 3rd gear and would not change out of 3rd when driving 60 mph. Same transmission shop said we need to pull it and take a look...... 3 months out of warranty and I said "what the ****"! Kept driving the vehicle, kept getting worse. Took the car in to a friend known mechanic that works on transmissions. Says; you need a new transmission, the last guys were full of ****. Well,

Needless to say, the car continues to take off in 3rd gear. I thought by trying to turn off engine and restart car it sometimes works... It did until the starter went out. Took the car to a Nissan dealership. Told me that my starter is fired; the speed sensor is not the right one for this model and something else - can't remember because of the price they quoted me - and that the ecu for the car would not read anything so they don't know what is wrong with the car... but to spend $1900 on these items and then they might be able to tell wht is wrong with the car.....

Can someone out there actually tell me something of what is going on with this vehicle? I have gone to 4 mechanics and they keep telling me to put more money into it but they never fix the problem...

HELP!

Be aware; The AT has it's own seperate computer located inside the rear pasenger side of the trunk.

You may want to check that before you invest in another trans or main ECU.

DL the service manual and have a look at the AT section before you trust another "professional's" opinion. There's a whole guide to trouble-shooting.

These electronicly controlled transmissions have a lot going on. There's a lot of room for gremlins.

I'm still trying to track mine down, though, I'm not having near the trouble that you seem to be.

Good luck!

Exactly!! Start simple, this you can do yourself. Make sure everything is plugged in, both at the computer and the connections at the tranny. Don't just look, seperate the connections and examine them. Any loose wires, pins or corrosion? Thin coatings of dielectric can't hurt (that I know of). Trace the wiring as much as you can to look for shorts/disconnection.

Next step would probably be to try another tranny brain. It's a long shot, but worth trying. Check the classifieds for parted out trucks, or simply ask nicely and loudly if anyone has a spare that they would ship you just so you could test. You get it...

It could be that the tranny is fried, but that's not the normal symptoms I'm used to hearing, it sounds more like a tranny control issue. Try to contact lgranch, if he is willing. He is a tranny expert...

Most importantly, wouldn't drive it at all, or as little as possible for the time being.

That's where I would start.
