Aircon question 98SE

Hi guys, I have a slight problem with my A/C:

When I turn my A/C on it blows cold (not freezing) air, but if I wait for a couple of minutes like this then turn off the A/C button, wait about 20 seconds and then push the button back on, the air starts to freeze up the way it should be.... And it remains fine for the rest of the trip.

I checked the freon level, it wasa bit low so I got it topped off. No change.

I can hear the A/C compresson turning on when I press the A/C button.

The odd thing is that I have noticed a little bit of oil-like liquid on the ends of the A/C hose under the hood. It's a very small quantity, but when I touch the ends where the hose nut is, it feels a bit oily. The dealer told me not to worry about it. Please check the photo I took of it:

What do you think guys?

Thankyou so much.

This would be a problem, I am thinking that this will need replaced. I covered mine in with indoor pipe insulator (the kind that is shaped just like pipe and has a long slice down it to slip right over it), to help keep cool freon cool in hot months...works great!! Even looks stock!

Thanks for the reply Silverpathy, can you post a pic and tell me if I can do the same as you did? Can you tell me exactly what you used?

I don't want to replace the hose as I will have to refill with freon, and this costs a lot here!

Thanks a lot.

That doesnt look normal to me. Mine never leaked like that.

Towards the back of that hose, you see the cylindrical piece of pipe with the valve on top and light green cap? Grab that whole thing with your hand with AC on, and see how cold it is. Mine feels like 35~40* and gets condensation on it. Like a soda can that came out of a refrigerator.

Once the A/C starts blowing cold air, it's just as you said, the piece of pipe is freezing and there is condensation on it.

The A/C is functioning normally, the only issue is that it takes forever to start freezing unless I turn it off and then back on as I described in my first post.

Thanks guys for your replies.
