Lift Kit question?

Recommended Posts

What up fellas,

Haven't posted in a while, but I finally saved up enough money to get my lift kit installed (and actually purchase it for that matter). I am seriously considering buying the following Lift kit from AC

-Lift comprised of 4 coils which will give your unibody Pathfinder or Qx4 2" of lift when installed. Coils are powder coated black and can be installed by owner. Allow the use of 31" tires. Includes Rancho front struts and Rancho RS5000 Shocks for the rear.

As you guys noticed it does not come with the strut tower mounts (they have other lift kits that do, but NONE that come with both Rancho struts and shocks) Are strut tower mounts an absolute necessity? And does anybody have any personal experience running Rancho struts and Shocks? Are there any other particular struts (or shocks for that matter) that you guys recommend as oppose to the Rancho's that I'm looking to buy?

Anything else that I MUST BUY that the kits do not come with and that I should purchase?

And now air-filters

Weapon-R or a JWT Pop Charger, which one is my best bet performance wise and money wise? and where can I find them?

Alright thats it, pardon the long question, and thanks in advance for the input guys. The site rocks as I have learned a lot just from reading old post, and other peoples questions/answers.

i have rancho's all around and I like them. Ive heard that you should stay away from the RS5000 as they have a very harsh ride. I have the RS9000X and I like that i can adjust the dampening on them. There are a few more options for struts and shocks, one of them is KYB. As for the other questions i cant help ya as i have a K&N on mine, and i love it. One word of advice is start pblasting all the bolts now as it will make life easier when you put it on. It took me and my dad (a master cert mechanic) about 8 hours with hand tools to install mine.

I have the AC lift with 1" strut spacers. I am running 32x11.5x15 tires and have virtually no rubbing. Only had to trim the excess plastic inside the wheel wells. I had 33x9.5x15 but the tires were just too thin for sandy condition in the Mojave Desert.

I am running Bilstein shocks with Rancho struts. A very nice combo for both on and off road. I did need longer camber bolts but no big deal as I had an alignment shop do the front alignment.

I tried a K&N filter but experienced no real difference in performance. Only made the engine a little louder.

I would install Warn hubs for sure. It is nice to be able to disconnect the CV joints while on the street and only run 4wheel while in the dirt. Does save wear and tear on the CV's.

If you lift the rig and go with bigger tires you are going to get much worse MPG's. No way to solve that. The Warn hubs and after market air filters will get you maybe 2 more MPG, that is a big maybe. I am going to start running higher octance gas just to see if the MPG's go up.
