no spark distributor

I just had a similar problem to yours after my engine swap. I had some vacuum line issues which ended up fouling the plugs. At first it would run, not great, but it would drive around the block ok. While I was t'shooting it and trying to adjust timing and idle it would bog out then it finally just wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them (so I thought) and it still wouldn't fire. I thought it was the ignition module too so I bought one and that didn't help either. I finally pulled the #1 plug and laid it on the radiator bracket and looked for a spark when I cranked it (you have to be creative/dangerous when you're doing everything by yourself). No spark. I pulled a plug from my old motor, hooked it up and got a spark. I tested each of my "new" plugs that way and every one was fouled to the point of failure even after I cleaned them with carb cleaner and emory cloth. Go figure.

I think I was getting too much unmetered air into the manifold which caused the air/fuel mixture not to burn completely so after a while, the unburned fuel allowed the carbon in the exhaust to coat the plugs. Either that or it was all the chocolate syrup I poured down the TBI to clean it.

Anyway, if you haven't visually tested to see if you're getting a spark inside your cyliders, I'd check it.

It seems like one of the new parts could be faulty, maybe the new ignition, or a bad connection on the old wire? I did have a new set of wires with issues once, got a different set and worked just fine. Maybe it could be the timing? Have you cleared the codes and checked them again?

Weird. Is it possible you just got a bad cap? If the dizzy is turning, it's pretty simple.....spark in, distributed to plug wires. THe electronics within the distributor aren't even in the loop at that point.
