VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

I am looking to convert over the mechanical speed sensor from my 87 to an electrical one out of a 95 (or whatever ones have electrical speedo/odo's) ...I've searched and couldn't find any information on it...I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere previously where people have done tranny swaps from other make/models and swapped the internals as well as the sensor...

If someone could point me to a topic on this or a how to I'd really appreciate it...I haven't pulled a tranny/tcase apart so this is going to be new territory for me...

could this be completed in a JY with basic hand tools bc while I'm home I may hit the u pull it yard...

Thanks in advance

you can buy a 't piece' style sender that will give you an electrical pulsed signal and then your cable for mechanical speedo 'screws' in the back of it. i had to do this for the 3.8L V6 motor.

so I would then have a mechanical gage still with the VSS to go to the ecu?

I would like to use just the electrical gages but if I could use that adapter to do that then I could create a box in the engine compartment or something to maintain the "original miles"

Thanks...but these are the parts I need...I have the wiring just need the parts to convert my tranny from a mechanical to electrical

STEP 6: REMOVE OLD SPEEDO CABLE FROM VEHICLE ALONG WITH THE GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION

STEP 7: INSTALL NEW SPEED SENSOR AND GEAR INTO TRANSMISSION

sorry, i didnt pick up on you wanting the newer cluster, my bad

no worries I guess I should have made it clear that I've put the 95 wiring harness in my 87 but still ahve the 87 gear in the tranny along with the mechanical connection which I need to swap out
