Engine Swap Questions

Alright so I have an 89 with a carb motor. And the engine has about 230k on it and has not been sounding so healthy lately and i was looking at the local junkyards website for pathy engines. They have acouple out of like 94s with 100k on em. So my question is would i need a new computer if i were dropping in an engine with fuel injection?

You could use the '94 if you swapped the intake manifold and throttle body (it's not a carburetor, there's injectors in it) from your engine. No need to change the ECU or harness. You'll also want to check if the harmonic balancers are the same. If not, you may have to use the one on the new engine and get new pulleys and mounting brackets for your PS, A/C, H20 and alternator. Your best bet would be to get an engine from the same year as what you're going to replace, but I know how it goes trying to find one with low miles.

There's a lot of little stuff that needs to be addressed when swapping from different year Pathfinders, not to mention different year and model Nissans altogether. Take a good read in the engine swap threads here and at places like nissan4wheelers.com, 4x4parts.com, nissanoffroad.com, etc... and you'll get a good idea of what's possible and what's involved when swapping engines from year to year and make to make.

any pathy VG should drop straight in from 86.5-95 and a change of manifolds as JJ said will keep it running...all the mounting brackets and acceessories will be the same.

you can also get a 3.0 maxima engine and convert it over...a lil more work though...changing over to EFI is more work and a lot of electrical things need to be addressed...I put a 95 in my 87 and cheated...i went ahead and put the harness and dash in so I didnt have to worry with figuring out all the wiring and how to get everything to work which is possible but I just didnt want to deal with it
