starter/eletrical problems- Please Help!

:confused: Randomly my “93 Pathfinder (Auto Transmission)” will not start. It just makes a clicking sound?

Sometimes just a few fast key turns can get it started, other times I have to let it set for an hour or so? All internal lights and power are functioning. At first this was happening on hot days or if I drove it for a couple hours at a time, now it just happens whenever?

The battery is less then a year old. I have had a new relay and a new starter put into it (the starter was replaced three times?? They thought it was due to a bad part). After the third time out of the shop and this was still happening they disconnected the alarm system and keyless entry thinking that was were it was shorting out, but it did not help at all. Same thing is still happening!!

So now not only will my Pathfinder not start at random, but now I do not have features that I use to have?

If anyone has any feedback I would highly appreciate it. This is becoming a very annoying and very expensive problem. In addition, nothing is getting fixed!!!

Please :help: !!!!!

If the battery is good but your connections are bad, you could experience this type of problem. Enough voltage getting through to power your internals (low amp) but not enough ooomf to start her (high amp).

Another thing to check happened to my pathy try the fuseible links near the battery I had to replace the lager ones due to a similar problem intermitant starts but also intermitant stalls when we hit a good size bump or turned a sharp corner.

Links cost about $8 bucks mine had a loose connetion in the wiring side of the plug hard part was getting the right ones from the dealer took 3 tries and had to order it!

MatterHorn;

You should mention that your fix bypasses the neutral safety start on autos (or clutch safety bypass on standards). The actual path of the wire from the ignition to the starter is a bit more complicated than your sketch shows.

With the safety disclaimer about starting in any gear aside, that is a quick and simple solution to an annoying problem. (And a good working sketch too.)

let me put this disclaimer in then ... if any of you would read the post, it isn't MY sketch ...

secondly, you are right, it is a quick fix to an annoying problem ... but I belive that most people are intelligent enough to not start their rig in just any gear ... am I right?

Oops! I apologize! I never even looked at "Mr. Reverse" signature.

I'm not knocking it. Like I said, it works.

But those safety devices (like clutch switches) weren't installed for "intelligent " people. (never saw kids left in a car even for a second?)

I just thought that it should be mentioned that where for the last 10 or so years somebody may have owned their pathy and it would ONLY start with the clutch pedal depressed (or for auto the shifter in P or N). (heck, with the problem, it didn't start at all) Now, after the mod, it will start without the clutch depressed (or in any gear)

Just thought a warning might save garage door (or more).
