Hey pathians.

 

I think that my trusted mechanic is finally losing it!

 

I have the LSD rear, and had my mechanic flush and refill it this weekend. I am not totally confident that he used LSD oil. The invoice just said 9.5 qts gear oil (he also did my tcase).

 

So two questions - does that volume sound right for a rear dif and tcase? does the LSD require a totally different fluid from the tcase, or just an addititve? can i check if he used the right stuff simply by redoing the opposite wheel rotation test?

 

BTW, I also asked him to change my engine oil and front diff, but he didnt 'write it down.' when i asked him how he was doing (just to be friendly), he said 'i woke up today.'

Sounds about right to me, and you don't really have to put additive in for a LSD unless it's real touchy around corners. Regular gear oil will work just fine.

can you please better define "real touchy." what i am thinking of has nothing to do with my pathy!

Well, if you go around a corner and the LSD makes one tire chirp by itself, that'd be a bit touchy. I highly doubt it'll do that to you, but that's what I meant. Most of the time straight GL-5 will make an LSD work BETTER.

Also, nowadays, most gear oil has the LSD additive in it anyways. Using gear oil with LSD additive in a non-LSD diff will do absolutely nothing to the diff. You're fine.
