Jdpathy
Well I was finishing installing my new stereo and I accidentaly hit the 4wd shift knob and knocked it into 4hi without noticing it. I drove 1 mile on dirt and then 3.5 miles on pavement and then back on dirt for 2 miles. Pavement speed was 55 miles per hour. I didn't have a chance to check and see if the transfer case still works. This is a 91 pathy on 28.9 inch tires. Do you guys think this could have caused a problem? Jdpathy
probably not... did you put it back in 2?? notice any strange noises or anything? I realized once I got to my destination that I was in 4wd and put it into two but haven't had a chance to drive it in 2 yet. What kind of noises would I be looking for. Edit: I do remember though while I was on dirt I heard a weird noise but I didn't even think about the transfer case when I heard it for some reason. Pezzy
I was thinking of it made any noises it didnt before you might need to worry -- otherwise I am sure it's fine...
Simon
Probably fine, as long as you didn't make too many sharp turns. To test, go into a parking lot with dry pavement. Put it in 4HI and turn the wheel sharp, then move forward SLOWLY. It should sort of buck/hop on you....that way you know your 4wd is working.
