Guest Looney
Hello to all Pathfinder owners, I just joined. This is a sweet website. I am on my second Pathfinder and bought a 1996 XE 5sp recently. I had my clutch replaced and ever since once the car warms up I smell gear oil coming from the shift lever. It is especially bad when I open a window and create a vacuum effect. I have checked and have no leaks on the underbody. I changed the transmission fluid as well. I am wondering if there is some sort of seal that should be around the shifter that is missing? Or maybe a vent house off the transmission is venting into the vechile? If anyone can shed some light on this subject it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Looney
88pathoffroad
Sounds like the floorpan shifter boot didn't get put back on the right way or something. That's kinda wierd.
big_johnson
There should be a rubber boot around the shifter, underneath the top boot. Maybe that's coming off or loose.
