    Jerky stops

Ok, I spoke with a mechanic briefly and he suggested I have my rotors shaved (same as turning?). Is there a way a home mechanic can do this himself? Or do you need big specialized tools to do this?

    Jerky stops

Hi, I have 2k1 Pathfinder with almost 50K on it. When I brake at high speeds (not slamming, just trying to slow down), my car starts jerking forward a bit. Not a lot so that the person jumps but enough to feel the jerk. The higher the speeds from which I start braking the worse the jerk feels. On casual city driving, I can barely feel it. Not sure if it is related, but also at high speeds, the steering wheel seems to sway a bit much. I'm about to take my car to the dealer for an oil change soon and would like them to take a look at the problem. But before I do that I would like to find out if this can be a do-it-yourself job. The front brake pads were replaced at about 30-35K. :help: Question 2, how do I know if it is time to replace my shocks? The shocks are stock and came with the car.
  3. Huh, that's interesting...Thanks for the insight on the Tornado. Couple of things... How does upgrading to a manual hub better my fuel econ? What kind of hub does a stock 01 Pathfinder have? Also, what is your take on cleaning fuel injectors? My dealer says I need it as it gives better fuel econ and HP. Are they pulling my leg? Is it really needed? Thanks for your advice. :cool2:
  4. Hello Everyone, It is well known that SUVs have poor fuel economy. So what do you do about it? What can I do to improve the fuel economy? I live in Chicago, and I do a lot of city driving. With all the stop and go traffic here, it really downs the fuel. Yea I knew what I was getting into before I bought my Pathfinder. :o I bought the Tornado Fuel Saver 2 years ago. I'm not sure if my perception was affected by the placebo effect or not. My dealer told me I should clean my fuel injection nozzles. Is the dealer full of it? Is there a way I can clean it myself? What have you guys done/modded to improve fuel economy?
  5. Yea I had a problem with my changer too. It would give me an "error 2" message when I switch to Cd mode and won't play Cds. I took it to my dealer and they didn't even know what it is. They replaced the changer and the radio and the message was still there! I was about to enforce the Lemon Law but they fixed it on the last third try. They had to replace the changer AGAIN!
  6. Runnerman, OMG! that is awesome! Did you do some preping to seal the electricals? Alternators can take in water and still run? What about the intake and exhaust? Dang...You are the man! I've always wanted to trek across water with my car.
  7. << Or if someone on here has an FSM or PDF FSM and would post the pages pertaining to this issue, that would be cool, too. >> This might be a dumb question but what does FSM stand for? Where do you get one of these?
  8. How would you make the car water proof though.? There are a lot of electrical stuff in there...
  9. I changed mine out at about 45K. I was in the same situation, the dealer said I had to change my belts. Check the belts out for yourself and see if they are cracking. They are probably talking about the AC and/or alternator/Fan belts. I didn't even go Nissan belts. I went to pep boys or autozone and picked up my belts. No problems here.
  10. Hi, This may be an amateur question but Why can't you do a body lift on a 01 Pathfinder? And what are 33 spline H233B? What's an ARB? I'm new to this so if anyone can explain it I'll greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
  11. Hello! What are "the R50 Pathfinders"? I try to do all my repairs and maintenance myself first too. It's fun but can be time consuming. I can't do major repairs or mods unless I know I can finish it in one day since it is my primary source of transportation. Also, Do you know if lifts can be installed in an average person's garage? I have jack stands and all that but do I need hydralic lifts and other equipment not accessible to average joe? This forum is great! I used to think that Pathfinder owners don't mod their cars so I was stuck in a world by myself. And there is this community!
  12. Hi, I'm new to this aftermarket thing. What's the difference in the 2 alternators? Do you get more HP or something? And what's with 2 batteries when all you need is 1 to start the car. Sorry for the ignorance but I'm really new to modding and this aftermarket stuff.
  13. Hi everyone! I'm new! I own a 2001 Stock Nissan Pathfinder SE. I'm no mechanic but I'm starting to pick up a lot from working on my Pathfinder and maintaining other cars. Eventually, I would like to lift the car 2-3" and add bigger tires. Adding HP would be nice too. The first thing I noticed is there are not a lot of places that make after market stuff for the Pathfinder. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. Also, how much do you guys spend on your mods? Is modding possible to do in an average joe's garage? or do I have to take it to a shop?
