  1. I don't know about the rest of you out there, but to get to the ECU under the seat and get that plastic cover off was quite a pain in the a! I tried using different tools to get that screw undone, but to no avail. Then  , it dawned on me to take the seat out instead. Man did that make a difference! All you have to do is unscrew the two front bolts and then take the plastic covers off the back of the chair rail that cover the back two bolts and unscrew them. Bing, the front seat is mobile and I just moved it toward the back seat. Now the ECU is accessible, I can get that stupid plastic cover off and I can put the service manual on the drivers seat for easy reading while I lean in with the passenger door open. Also, it makes it easier to access the ignition to turn the key to the "on" position. Hope this might help others!
  2. Thank you all for the feedback. I finally decided to go with the Bumper Thumper and just ordered it off the net. Thanks 88path, you were my inspiration and one of the few that had a picture of what an actual one looked like!
  3. Can anyone confirm for me that I can put the 4 door version (2 steps, '90-'95) of the Nissan stock nerf bars on my 2 door '88 Pathfinder using the 4 door install hardware? Will they fit correctly? Thanks
  4. Hello to all! I have been hitting this site for quite a few weeks and finally after obtaining the new family member (1988 SE 4x4) decided to make it official and sign up to be a member. This is my fourth Pathfinder, my first was an '87, my second an '88, my third was a '94 (bought two days before the birth of my first child, for the four doors!), and now since I have invested in the family hauler (2002 Honda Odyssey) I have been able to get back to my favorite, the '88. My new baby has 200K on it and I bought it from California on autotrader.com. It has just arrived home, so I am looking to make some upgrades! Thanks to everyone already for the great information available on this site!
  5. Since I started with the front of the Pathfinder (Brush Guard), I thought I would continue to the back for other recommendations. I live in Michigan, so I have to deal with snow, salt, rain, and cold temperatures. I use the Pathfinder as a daily driver and on the weekends to hit camping sites, fishing holes, and motorcycle trails (future, when my two boys get older). Here are the areas I am looking into: 1) Nerf Bars/Side Steps. I like the original Nissan, but they tend to rust. I also have seen guys put the 4 door version on the two door, which in my opinion allows you to reach the luggage back better. Anyone had good luck with other options? 2) Shocks - have read on this forum and others about Rancho 5000s and 9000x shocks. 3) Tires - read on Tire Rack about the Bridgestone Revos and they seem to be some of the best. 4) Undercoating - I have been looking into putting some type of undercoating on to help with the tendency of the Pathfinder to rust. I have been investigating Herculiner. I have used Por 15 before and have looked at Eastwood products. Any suggestions? 5) Replacement springs in the rear to go with the new shocks. I appreciate any and all feedback and recommendations. Thanks for your time.
  6. New member question for you all. I am on my fourth Pathfinder and I have returned to my favorite one, a 1988 SE. I am looking to put a Brush Guard on it and am looking for suggestions. The smitty bilt bumper thumper is my first choice, but before I buy wanted to get some feedback. Any suggestions?
