  1. @Nd4SpdSe It has made a huge difference to the control off-road. Have switched to using "E7" and it's no longer as jumpy in low range over larger rocks or bumpy tracks. I've also noticed a ~1L/100km improvement in economy driving in "E7" over standard settings 50/50 city/open road driving. I'll use this setting more often than not for every day driving. It feels pretty gutless, but I'm rarely in a rush (especially when heading to work!) Conversely, the instant response when taking off from a roundabout/entering traffic and towing has been great in "U5". @Slartibartfast Did you play with the settings at all? It's very customizable. As mentioned, I found "U9" far too responsive to the extent that I found the trans searching for gears, or not changing up until I lifted my foot. The ability to choose Auto or even revert back to factory settings is also good. It's not for everyone, just my honest feedback.
  2. Update for any R51 owners that are interested. I bought and installed the standard EVC Throttle Controller (above) and WOW, it has completely transformed it. I've used: - "E4" Eco 4 for every day driving which has slightly improved fuel economy. - "A/C" (Automatic Control) for some mild off-roading through some mountain passes. Great for all conditions. - "E9" Eco 9 for some riverbed driving. This mode was perfect for the large rocks and technical driving requiring smooth throttle control. This mode was also great for reversing the trailer. - "U5" Ultimate 5 while towing my trailer. This was the most eye opening. It drove like there was no trailer, throttle response was incredible! Also use this mode when entering traffic at roundabouts, or while overtaking. I found U9 - the highest and most responsive setting - was a little too responsive and spent a lot of time dropping, then searching gears (auto trans). Otherwise, I'd highly recommend it! I'm still after some advice on DPF back exhausts if anybody has experience/an opinion.
  3. Hi all! Any YD25 R51 drivers have experiences with throttle controllers? Looking at this: EVC-IDRIVE THROTTLE CONTROLLER NISSAN PATHFINDER 2005 - 2012 (R51) – iDRIVENZ They seem like a good idea. The increased weight of the accessories have made poor Wags a little sluggish trying to get into traffic and while towing. I like the idea of better throttle response on the road as well as the economy modes, and better control in low range. I've seen YouTube videos on them but I'm after some real world reviews. Whether I get one or not, in the next few months it will be getting a dyno tune, trans cooler and catch can. My second question is whether a DPF back exhaust is actually worth it. I've heard mixed opinions.
  4. 100% recommend an awning. We use ours very often even if it's only as a sun shade for a picnic stop. Looking to upgrade to a 270 degree awning next year but the 2.5x2.5m is great! We store our camping chairs and other items we want to keep dry in bags in the roof box. Bought a camping trailer to carry the tent, electrical and fishing gear and other boxes for longer duration camping. 12V/battery/solar fridge/freezer. Lucky in the R51 to have a 12V socket in the boot to run the fridge. We are a family of 4 with two large dogs so of course our requirements will differ from yours. Good luck and hope you enjoy it. We sure do!
  5. Hope you enjoy your trip! Be prepared for the fuel prices here if you do get out Looking forward to our next trip to the mainland (got a couple of trips to Hawaii beforehand). We will be heading to Austin as well as Houston, then way up to Pennsylvania to visit more of her family. Was surprised to see so many Pathfinders on the roads last we were there. Happy wheeling fellow Pathy's, hope everybody manages to get some exploring in over the holiday period! I know we will be hitting the trails this Southern Hemisphere summer.
  6. Hi Ryan. If you manage to get out 4wding, I've heard Red Rocks is a fantastic drive around the South coast new Wellington. Enjoy the wind while you're there overlandnavigator.co.nz is a great resource. I live in the South Island where we have awesome braided rivers through breathtaking valleys and high country farming stations. Where in Texas are you? I visited Houston earlier this year to visit my fiancés family. Was amazed how massive greater Houston was... our cities are puny!!!
  7. Hi Kiwi! Another R51 owner from Christchurch here. Truck looks great, has been great inspiration for mine. Always wanted to do Le Bons but it’s looking rougher every time I see it in photos or videos. Did you have to winch any sections? Another quick question… where did you get the front recovery points? I have an Ironman Deluxe bar but apparently Ironman don’t stock recovery points for R51 so looking for more options. Cheers
  8. Hi all, from New Zealand! Another long time lurker, first time poster. I've previously owned two WD21's: - VG30 WD21, Airflow Snorkel, 2" lift and 30" A/T's, approx 2009. - TD27 WD21, Custom bar, Airflow snorkel, 2" suspension and 2" body lift and a set of 267/75R16 M/T's, GME TX3100 UHF. As well as a '92 Isuzu Bighorn and an LJ78 Landcruiser Prado. Over the past 12 months been the proud owner of "Wags", an R51 TI (YD25DDTI) which I've been slowly upgrading to be our family adventure/camping rig: So far she's been awesome! Fits the family plus two large dogs while towing the trailer full of camping gear and mountain bikes with ease! Of 4x4's I've owned over the last 20 years of offroading and overlanding, the R51 has been my favourite due to the power, capability and comfort. She has overcome every obstacle I've thrown her at. Will someday purchase another WD21 for a SAS project. Looking forward to gaining and sharing info, and pics of adventures in the Pathy.
