  1. Here's my daily driver... Haven't found anywhere to wheel in South Florida that doesn't involve swamps though (no snorkel and open diffs so far) :-/
  2. Update: I sold the Pathfinder for $700-I suck at negotiating Anyway, he wanted to put a new engine in it and take it back home to Haiti. Can't thank everyone enough for all of the help I've received here over the years. Best wishes to all, Taro
  3. I ended up deciding to put it on CL for $1000. http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/cto/3384060348.html If it doesn't sell in the next few days, I'll sell it to a scrap yard. Towncivilian, I sent you a pm. Thanks, Taro
  4. Thanks for the response. Any ideas on what the going rate is? Thanks, Taro
  5. Also turns out that I have the show opening glove box.
  6. Yes, I have the front combination housing. Re: the door handle having resistance. I'm assuming yes. I have never had the feeling that it was broken. All this being said though, here's my predicament: right now my mechanic is letting me keep the non-running pf at his lot temporarily until I decide what I'm going to do with it. I live in a suburb and don't have any garage space to part it out. Another thing I'm short in is time, especially now that we have to buy another car. The mechanic thought a local yard would offer $400 for it. As I've been looking through Nissan part prices, it looks like it would take a lot of time and effort to make significantly more than this. Thoughts? Thanks, Taro
  7. My charcoal canister was missing, but my rack and PS pump are good as far as I know. My door handles are good. I don't recall the glove box opening slowly or an air temp sensor. I have a '98 se with the spare tire rack on the rear and I believe a limited slip rear diff (although I'm not sure if the clutches are doing anything at this point). I'm not sure what the front combination housing is. My interior color is beige cloth and brown plastic. Are you guys able to pick up?
  8. I am currently in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area. The crank is damaged. The area where the keyway was repaired is now oblong. Doh!
  9. The long version of the story is that I bought it at $135k with a clean carfax report only to find that it had been in a front end collision. Eventually, I developed a hole on top of the muffler, which then resulted in the carpet above the muffler melting. Then the keyway for the crank pulley got mangled, which was repaired. That was the repair that gave up the ghost. The mechanic called and said he couldn't believe she was running for as long as she did in the shape that she was in. In addition, there's some evap equipment that is not working/missing-he also mentioned something about looking like there was a small fire where some of the emissions equipment is missing. Also, three of the four o2 sensors are throwing codes. But that being said, when it was running prior to this, it was running, shifting, steering, and braking very well. Mileage is around 225k miles. :-(
  10. Well, my 1998 seems like she's finally throwing in the towel. The mechanic is guessing that she might need a new engine, but won't know until he starts taking things apart. He noted that once he began taking things apart, he can't guarantee that he can get her running again unless she gets a "new" used engine. He said junk yards are offering about $400 for a vehicles to scrap, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to try and part it out. As far as I know, the manual tranny and transfer case are fine as well as the rear axle and front diff and half shafts. The tires and wheels are in decent shape...any thoughts? Thanks, Taro
  11. skulptr, i forgot to add that those are some excellent pictures of the rear wheel tucking into the wheel well! to anyone who is interested: we just had our "blizzard" of 2010 in tennessee and i'm glad to report that the yokos did great in the snow (about 2") and the resulting ice. if traction became an issue, just putting it into 4 hi did the trick and i didn't get out of sorts at all. of course you had to slow down slowly. the abs came on a few times. i only mention this because in the south, most people think that having 4wd means you can stop on a dime on ice and defy the laws of physics. just to clarify, the ice had texture, it wasn't black ice or super smooth ice. hth
  12. skulptr, thanks for posting your experiences. It looks like you might be better served by an MT tire versus an AT. My best "hybrid" experience was with the Cooper Discoverer S/Ts. Relatively aggressive tread, but still good on the highway. My Dean Mud Terrains are very squirrely on-road, but this could also be due to the fact that they are only 9.5 inches wide on live axles on both ends
  13. ModiFinder, you're welcome Howie, FYI: I had some rubbing today at 32 degrees that I didn't experience at 19 degrees for some reason. It's only to the right at full lock, just like with the BFGs. Thanks to all for their feedback. It's reassuring to hear the positive experiences of others.
  14. ModiFinder, thanks. Re: size difference, I bought my pathfinder used with 31 x 10.50 already on them and so I can't comment on any power loss or gearing issues due to a switch from the stock size. I will say thought that the pf has always been fun to drive, especially with older worn out tires Howie, no rubbing. I did have rubbing with the BFG ATKOs. I just got in the habit of not going to full lock, until you asked and i tried last night. re: any rubbing due to suspension travel, i don't remember any with the bfgs--definitely no damage due to contact with the wheel wells, etc. hth
  15. Mine is a 98 SE 5-speed. Almost 200k mi. It needs a lift Price was the biggest influence on my decision. The Revos are much more expensive when you price them out for 4 or 5 tires. PS- sorry if the pics aren't very good. I uploaded them from my phone and I can't really see how everything's looking
  16. Just wanted to give these tires a mention. I just bought four 31 x 10.50 15 for my 98 pf. I haven't had them off road yet, but I've really enjoyed their wet weather on-road characteristics. Far better than the BFG ATKOs that I had which slipped a lot; but in fairness, the BFGs it turned out were 12 years old. For the price though, I find Yokohamas hard to beat at least when shopping for tires for a Honda Odyssey or a pf.
  17. Congrats! Hope you get the fuel temp code figured out and be careful in Vegas! It was weird about my timing. I had the new distributor oriented the same way as the old one, but when i dropped it in, it shifted about 10 degrees. But when I put the old one back in, it fired up. I suppose there was an easy way to do it, but as usual, I learn the hard way.
  18. oh my bad. i got confused. on my 3.3L vg, the oil filter is tucked up high on the driver's side and oil changes are sloppy. i am running without a "skid" plate, but am starting to worry about my alternator as it seems to be collecting a lot of crud on it. i'm not sure if this is from running without the skid plate or if it's from one of the numerous oil leaks that i seem to have.
  19. i hope it's working out for you. i ended up paying $300 for a new cardone distributor from advance. i started with the remanned one for $280, but for whatever reason i couldn't get it to work. i thought it was the remanned unit and so i just got the new one just in case. the knock sensor is built into this unit as well so i didn't want to have to keep digging into it. a few notes: for some reason, i couldn't just pop in the new one without having to readjust the timing. then i kept having brain farts about clockwise and counterclockwise and where 0 degrees was. once i got it straight in my head it was simple enough. also, for some reason, about a week after i put the new one in, the connector somehow came loose and showed up as a knock sensor error. i found out it was a loose connector as i was stranded on the side of the highway getting ready to put a hammer to the distributor :O anyway, i'm sorry you've had such an ordeal with the pathfinder. hope the distributor does the trick. good luck!
  20. I didn't even think about accessing it from the rear. Thanks!
  21. I had to replace mine earlier this year. It developed some play. Symptoms included rough idle and inconsistent rpms. New distributor cured the problem.
  22. Correction: $366.77 i don't think so as he didn't mention it and i forgot to ask him about it when i took it to him (he's not a nissan specialist). i'm assuming i had problems with my crankshaft keyway because when my pulley came loose, i let it run when i was trying to figure out what was going on. it wasn't very long, but i'm sure with as loose as it was (at least half-inch play in the pulley) and the alternator, a/c compressor, and p/s pump protesting, it was enough to do what it did. i'll hope for the best for the timing gear keyway for now
