  2. I have a 2004 Pathfinder that makes a low rumble noise when turning the wheel from stand still or very low speed.  The front two wheels have experienced a 3/4 foot drop a couple days ago. Everything's stock, power steering fluid is fine.  Any thoughts?

Wow this is really nice. I am color blind but the red must really pop with that type of interior.  Maybe try dual-tone leather in the future? Beautiful work!

This sounds like an aftermarket alarm because the factory ones didn't have vibration sensors.

Did unlocking manually ever shut off the alarm? I'd be surprised if it did. The problem is it can't tell the difference between that and someone opening the door from inside. It has no key hole sensor.

I'd try to find the siren unit, get the model number and look up the manual online to see what my options were.

No, manual unlock doesn't deactivate the alarm.

  5. Hi, my car has a security system that flashes the hazard lights and sets off the horn intermittently whenever something is wrong (like vibration or unlocking a door from the inside).  My key fob has an unlock button that unlocks the doors and deactivates the alarm when pressed.  However, whenever I try to use manual unlock (key/keyhole), the alarm sets off when I open the door. Manual lock works and engages the alarm, but neither the driver side keyhole nor the back hatch keyhole disengages the alarm.  Manual unlock still unlocks the doors, but I was wondering if any of you know a way to work-around or fix this?? Thank you

  6. Hi, so I had an emergency and had to resort to using the spare key.  Upon unlocking the car manually with the key, the doors unlocked but the alarm still went off after I opened the door.  Luckily I also had a spare fob key that disarmed the alarm.  Does anyone know how to manually unlock the doors/hatch AND open them without setting the alarm off?  The alarm will shut off if manually locked.  It will also continue to alarm and refuse to start even if you put the key in the ignition.

Open the driver's door and look at the lower corner of the door jamb on the body. You'll see a little rubber plunger. That's the door switch. When you push it in, it simulates the door being closed. The issue could be that the switch is not being depressed enough because of the door not being as snug to the body as it was when new.

Yes, check the switch on the door jams.  Also, does the alarm cut off after 30 or so seconds?

  8. I was doing maintenance checks and planning little repairs like new mirrors, bumper, detailing, and all that jazz.  Prom is coming around the corner and I had a really cool idea planned out to propose involving my car, but unfortunately my girlfriend broke up with me today - so it's just a fantasy now

With so much rain here in the south(east TN) this past month I haven't had a chance to wash the old gal. Being OCD like I am, has been driving me crazy. The last 3 days with clear skies and highs in the 60's that all came to an end. This is February isn't it? Lol clean machine. #r50obsessed 90c7ca77e0458c7b78cfe6d08cdb9ec3.jpg

Does the vibration fade in and out? Or does it start as the torque converter locks, so it might start suddenly and then fade out as you speed up?

Also, is it only when your are pressing the gas and then it goes away when you let up? Or does it go away as soon as you press the gas and starts again when you let off the gas?

Does it vibrate the same around curves?

Also, what sort of vibration is it? Like vibration from a subwoofer or the bouncing of your knee when your bored/nervous?

Sorry for the vague description.  Once you approach ~45 it gradually appears to vibrate, continues to vibrate, and dissipates once you increase past 50.  Depressing the gas does not affect the vibration, nor does curves and other road environments (snow, rain, grooves).  As for the vibration, it's more of the subwoofer kind.  Like a game controller constantly vibrating or your phone buzzing.  You can feel it on the steering wheel and on your seat.  If there were coins in the cupholder, it would rattle slightly.

  11. Hi, this is something that's been occurring since a transmission rebuild.  Previously, I had to get my transmission (140,000 miles) internally rebuilt because it wouldn't shift out of second.  After the fix, however, there is a slight vibration when cruising at 45-50 MPH.  Enough to feel it slightly in your seat, feel it in the steering wheel, and hear plastic components rattling.  Above 50 and below 45 is where no vibrations happen.  Any quick ideas or possible solutions?

That Q is alright. The '97 LE is 2WD, but maybe thats all you need

Just asking what makes thee QX4 'alright'?  Is it the Salvage title?  Also my 2 cents if anyone is looking for a Pathfinder is to look under for rust and corrosion.  Check engine and transmission records too if you can.

Even for a QX4, that price is way too high for a 2003. Could snag an R50 Pathfinder for $2000 or less for the most part. The fair market value is around $2000-$4,700, so $5000 is really kinda pushing it.

Fantastic vehicle, of course, but at over 170,000 miles, I wouldn’t pay more for it than you would to rebuild or replace the transmission/engine... which is around $2000-$3000.

Given that you might not know how well it’s been taken care of, and that the automatic transmissions in the R50 or QX4 can go bad fast if not taken care of, I’d keep that in mind with the price.

Hopefully others chime in, don’t just take my opinion or $0.02... unless it’s reasonable enough to you. If he’s stern on the price, give him your best offer, and let him sit on that. If he gets no better offer, he might hand it over.

I agree.  Although that QX4 is gorgeous with its maintenance records and cosmetics, I (personally) wouldn't justify the $5,000 for it -especially the age and mileage.  I suggest negotiating a fair price because there's really nothing to lose.  If you have year heart set on it, try going for the fair market value.  If you're on a budget and just want a Pathfinder/QX4, it doesn't hurt to search more!  Best wishes

@mjotrainbrain convinced me to get back on here, so here’s some recent pics. I’ve got a friend in town who has a lifted forester (which actually has the same mirrors as the pathfinder). It’s pretty dope.

I also got a new car a couple months ago, a 2002 Subaru Outback with a 5 speed manual, nicknamed the “swaggin wagon.” I’ve always liked this generation of outback, and I got a great deal on it. I absolutely love it, it’s super fun to drive, does amazing in the snow, gets great gas mileage, and actually can do the 80mph speed limit in Montana. I told myself I was gonna leave it stock but that didn’t last long. Here’s some pics.

Love the trucks!  And what's all the sudden craze with these old Subaru Outbacks??  My neighbor and his wife treat their Outbacks like kids.  Gotta love them though.

The perspective from the angled parking spaces adds to the effect, but I saw this silver R50 at Wal Mart, then had to snap a quick pic of the height difference. It’s amazing how much bigger lift/wheels/tires can make the whole truck appear. It was a pretty clean looking R50 btw.
