  1. That is definitely easier than removing the inside portion of the a-arm. How easy is it to slide the CV joint out though? I guess if you get the truck high enough so the a-arm can hang vertically, then it wouldn't be tough, but if that is still at an angle, you might have trouble. Thanks for the tips Dean!
  2. I did this repair this weekend. Changed both the boots on the passenger side axel. The boots together cost $30 US, and AC sells a new CV joint assembly for under a hundred dollars. This repair required some tools that I didn't have, and so the cost was greater (CV strap crimping pliers). The time involved may or may not be worth the price differential. It is a time consuming repair, especially if you have to keep running out for things. I'm going to be putting up some info on how I did it, will post a link when its ready. -Impact
  3. Thanks Denis, I definitly got one of the tight ones! Eventually i went down and borrowed a 5 ton 3 armed gear puller from Autozone. With that it was possible (though not ideal) to get the spider off the axel... The whole time i was thinking about having to get it back on... needless to say it was just as tough to get back on. I'm going to try and post some pics and all on how i did it, maybe save someone else some time.
  4. Hi Guys, I had a ripped boot on my CV joint for my 2001 Pathy. I took the axle out, and am trying to disassemble it to put the new boots on. The service manual says to "press the spider off" - Now I don't have a press, anyone have any tricks for doing this? or does autozone have a press that they will let me use there in the store? Thanks!
  5. I'm new to the Charlotte NC Area, and looking for some wheeling spots around here. I assume there must be lots of property that "allows" it, parks etc, but where do i find it? Got any good spots you know of?
  6. I went AC lift, and love it. I did discover a ripped inner cv joint boot during my last oil change, but it was very fresh, and doesn't look like any grit got into the joint. Going to replace both boots on that axle this weekend. Did I mention i have 105,000 miles on those CV boots, 60,000 miles of which were with the lift installed? I think they lasted their expected life. I doubt not having the lift would have made them last appreciably longer, it's a rubber part, and subjected to all kinds of abuse, salt etc. I'm sure which ever way you go with the lift you'll enjoy it!
  7. Yikes! not vicegrips! Hose clampy things like this: Sears Hose Clamps That way you don't worry about damaging your hose!
  8. I'm surprised no-one mentioned using those plyer like things that clamp off a hose while you are working on it (to lessen the amount of fluid coming out. It seems like there is always alot in the lines, even after purging the pressure. just my .02 c -Jim
