  1. I'm thinking those two locations should be it for your fuses, unless the 93 has another set somewhere that the '97 doesn't! Do you have a factory radio or aftermarket? What I think the problem ended up being with mine is that my aftermarket radio didn't have an illumination line so I just cut the end off that wire so there wasn't a lot of exposed wire and left it... I figure it must have wiggled around and the very tip must have touched something and that shorted out the lights. That line is all tied into the dash lights and God knows what else. When I initially put it in I was in a rush so U just twisted the wires together w/ some electrical tape.. That was supposed to be temporary, but 8 months later I just now got around to soldering all the connections and using heat shrink to seal it all up, so with the shoddy job I did in the beginning, there's no telling what the problem really was. Might just try disconnecting the radio and seeing if that fixes the problem if it's aftermarket.
  2. Had the same problem just this week... Dash lights went out all of a sudden. Didn't know it at the time it happened but I noticed it took out at least the corner markers on the front as well, and I may have been driving around with no tail lights or running lights for all I know! After some digging it looks like my problem was a short in the dimmer wire on the aftermarket radio I installed earlier this year... Not sure how it made it this long without a problem, but it did! I re-wired the radio (the proper way this time) and replaced the fuses, and all is back to normal. I did have a blown fuse, but it wasn't in the panel in the interior... It was in the fuse box in the engine compartment. This was on a '97, so I don't know if your '93 has the same thing or not. I think it was a 15A fuse that was blown, don't remember exactly what it was designated as, but it wasn't dash lighting or something similar like I was expecting to find.
  3. I also had a similar whine/whistle noise around 65-75 MPH... I changed diff fluid and put in synthetic and that seems to have quieted it down a little bit, but there's still a little noise, but it's much more tolerable than before. Dunno if someone climbing in the trunk and listening for the sound would help at least pinpoint the general vicinity of the sound to narrow down the culprit. Agree on getting the cooler installed if you aren't very good at turning a wrench...   4. My '97 was just doing the same thing. After I checked everything out, I determined it was something in the starter/solenoid. Instead of replacing one or the other I just went ahead and replaced them both. Figured it wasn't worth the hassle of just replacing the solenoid and having the motor die later or vice versa. I picked up a reman at Autozone for something like $130 and it solved the problem.
  5. 1 - Mass Airflow Sensor 2 - it's a plastic box that is connected to your air cleaner box. 3 - Should be an article about it on here. Just need some electrical contact cleaner and some q-tips.
  6. I tried every combination of straps and junk to hold the pulleys, and finally gave up and bought a pneumatic impact gun. Short of that, what Simon said will get it loose as well. I didn't want to try that and figured the impact gun was a good investment to my pneumatic tool collection anyhow! Mark everything very well before you take the belt off! I made sure it was very easy to tell where my marks were, and went so far to put white paint on the marks so I could clearly see them. That helped a lot. Don't really have any other advice on changing the belt other than take your time and follow the directions. This was the most major job I've done on my Pathfinder so I was a little nervous as well, but it's really nowhere as bad as I made it out to be!
  7. I just picked up a Pathfinder-specific harness for my '97... It plugs right into the existing taillight wiring harness so you know you get a good connection and nothing is wired backwards. Figured it was well worth the $30, as opposed to $18 or whatever a generic one goes for. Anyhow, the instructions for it don't mention taking off the interior panels. They say to pull the taillights off and plug into those, then there's supposedly "wiring access hole grommets" underneath the truck to get the wires out to the underside of the truck. Don't know if that helps anything or not.. The instructions are kind of vague, but I'm thinking it will all be self explanatory when I get underneath the truck and have a look!
  8. Just wanted to say thanks a lot for this thread and for the great pics! I just got all the parts in to start on this job tonight, so I'll be diving in with a printout of this thread in one hand and my Haynes manual in the other. -Jeff

  10. My thoughts exactly... I know I've heard people saying don't do it if it's not broken, but I'd rather do it while I'm in there and try to save myself from ending up on the side of the road! Funny thing... On my way home from work today it must have been in the mid 90's and I didn't get the noise when I had gotten it last night, this morning and this afternoon, so I don't know what the deal here is. I might just do it all for peace of mind, seeing as how it is acting a little funny and needs to be done soon anyhow!
  11. Hello everyone... I posted this on "that other site" and wanted to see if there are any other thoughts here. When I got in the Pathy to make a run to the store last night, I noticed a bad squeak has developed under the hood. I got home and checked my belts, and they all are in decent shape and I didn't have time to do much more than that. This morning I noticed that it was doing it again once the truck warmed up to operating temp. It only does it when it's idling, though; once I get on the gas it's quiet. So I made a note of that and when I went to lunch I noticed the exact same thing. So after doing a little reading, I went back out to see if I could turn it by hand and I can freely turn the fan as much as I want... I turned the engine on and looked at the fan and it does still run, but there's a awful noise. I have a feeling it's the clutch. If that's the case, while I drain the radiator and pull it, I'll probably do the timing belt/water pump/cam seals and just knock it all out at once, as I am on the verge of hitting 100,000mi any time now. I know some of you might think that if the water pump isn't acting up that I shouldn't mess with it, but I'd rather go ahead and do it while I'm in there instead of waiting for it to die on me and then going back to do the job!
